Information technology has become the most sought after branch in engineering sector these days, the reason for this being the number of job opportunities provided by private firms. Data Security, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Automation are the fields most IT firms are working on, and since these fields are relatively new more and more number of talented and skilled IT professionals are needed by private IT companies.

           This era of engineering is dominated by software, coding and AI. Every company is somehow or the other trying to introduce products to ease out customer experience and make a name for themselves. With that vision these IT companies need professionals who can work extensively in this field. 

           However, even though the number of job opportunities are increasing day by day, the number of skilled professionals is not at par with the number that is needed by companies. Most IT graduates do not possess even basic understanding of their subjects and apart from that they lack communication skills. According to a report published by a private surveying organisation, 97% of engineering graduates are not employable and only 4% have the necessary communication skills needed to carry out communication with the employer, peers as well as the clients. 

           This gap between skilled and unskilled employees needs to be brought down. The measures that could be incorporated into the undergraduate curriculum are Industrial training and Internship, which make students industry ready once they become graduates. Apart from this, the subjects should be taught in a practical way and examinations should emphasize more on practical knowledge rather than theoretical one.

           From the number of vacancies we come across every day on various job portals, a major fraction of vacancies are in private IT firms. Hence, one will strongly agree with the fact that private IT companies are one of the major employment providers in these days.
